Happy New Year!
On this cold January night, the moon shines brightly on the snow, creating a special kind of light. It is a little mesmerizing. Of course, I take it in from the comfort of my cozy room, with a fire burning in the grate (okay, maybe it's a gas fireplace). It's a perfect night to sort photos and think about the opportunities a new year brings. Where will we go this year? What adventures might we have? Will we stray far afield, or stay close to home? Time will tell. Tonight I am doing a preliminary sort of some of the photos on my computer, thinking which to keep, which to put into book form, which to discard...and which to move to my external hard drive. But I keep getting waylaid in the memories of my experiences! I know I have at least 8 photos of each of the locations above, but I like parts of each! Sigh. It's so hard to be cut-throat in hitting "delete." I use a Canon digital SLR, Daryl uses a Nikon digital SLR, I have a Nikon point-and-shoot, and there is always a cell phone close by. We record travels and activities, families, jobs/careers, food and drinks, crafts....and where are all the pictures we take? On SD cards or on devices. Sad, really. There does seem to be a resurgence in printing out your key shots, and scrap-booking! I don't know how may scrapbooks I made when I retired; some were gifted and many sit on shelves in a bookcase. I do love to create photo books as gifts, or to showcase our travels and time together. It's so much fun to reminisce, and to share our adventures with each other. However, I recently read an article that said today's young people don't have a personal record of themselves when they were small! All the photos are on their parents/caregivers phones. One of my goals is to create a scrapbook or photo book for each of our grandkids of our times together. That sounds like a lovely keepsake, doesn't it? I personally love to look back at old photos and be reminded of my parents, grandparents, and even great grandparents, and what we did, what we wore, what we looked like at various stages of my life. I am on the left, holding my oldest cousin, and my sister is obviously loving having her photo taken! My uncle is on the right, my day in the shadows. Looking at how we are dressed, it was probably a party, or special event. I love the black & white photo. A moment in time. So, I haven't gotten very far in deleting photos tonight, but oh what fun it is going down memory lane. A great start to the year, with lots of ideas for my to-do list for 2026. What about you? Any photography-related goals for this new year?
