Black and White Wednesday

I think Wednesday is going to become my B&W day. I can focus on finding and creating just the right image to share.

Here is a collage of images taken recently when my husband went flying with a friend in his WACO bi-plane. The plane is a brilliant red color, but the nostalgic part of me sees this as a B&W opportunity. Enjoy!

Here is one of the actual photos - just to demonstrate the comparison. What do you think? Which do you prefer?

Hmmmm - I have to say that the shiny red color grabs me, but the black and whites have so much more mood. I think I like shooting in b&w and having the option.

I just asked a friend of mine who is a pro b&w photographer what he does... will wait to hear back.

In this case I like the b&w better, how about giving the plane a hint of the read....does your editing program allow that?

I just saw your quote by Aristotle...you should never think without an image. My question is....how can you think without an image? I don't think I could even if I tried really really hard.

Both sets are great. I would have to say that I like the way you captured the whizz of the propellor in the top photo the most. It gives the photo that something different which makes it distinct.

i do love black and white photography, but i have to say red is such a great color for an old plane like that. so i'm gonna have to go with the color shot! but i do like the collage layout, too.

i still need to find out who that photographer is for you. perhaps this weekend—that is when i usually go there for coffee. :)

Oh as much as I love the vivid red color of the plane. I'm totaly in love with your B&W's. Keep them coming my friend. And YES YES please every wednesday. I'm looking forward too them.

I agree. The red really pops, but I love the tone of the b & w pix. Very cool, I'll have to give it a whirl myself. I'm such a color lover, but sometimes a good b & w is all I want :)

The propeller in the top shot is amazing but I bet that picture looks brilliant in colour too because that action would be in the forefront anyway. So in this instance, I think I actually prefer the colour because those biplanes in glossy red make me think of The Red Baron... Just seems right to me somehow. No scientific/photographic nouse though, just a personal preference :)

Joyce - I am sure my editing program can handle selective coloration - it's ME who can't right now:). The quote is interesting to me, and it makes me think that visually-oriented people can't imagine not having an image to work with, but maybe someone who is more kinesthetic, or tactile doesn't see it that way? Just a supposition - and it's a great question.

It's funny how a project takes on a life of its own. Hidden Gem

Thank you, Georgia , for helping me focus on the hidden gem, the place we love to go and not be found. Not far from home...it IS home. We call it "out back," and once there we are transported to a private place, not visible from houses or road or the casual observer.
