Stretching Ourselves

I loved the Color Week challenge, and find it's important to keep trying new things, and looking around at our environment in new and interesting ways. This is one of the reasons we like to take photo workshops, and classes.

I am currently finishing up an Online course, through the Picture Perfect School of Photography, on taking images for Stock Photography. This is an interesting business, which I was totally clueless about. A member of our camera club has been selling stock images for a couple of years and did a presentation on the process, and results. Intriguing. Basically you take a certain "type" of photo, depending on the agency you're interested in, upload a few images for approval, and once you're "in" then they handle sales, taking a cut of the profit. The idea is to sell your images multiple times, so your sales increase over time. Interesting.

Here is a sampling of one type of image. I have noticed that the white background is important for a lot of stock images. Not something I typically shoot, this has been the most difficult. But I enjoy the challenge so will keep working at it, I think:).

What are you trying that is new and different?

i have to admit, I know NOTHING about photography. But seeing so many great photo blogs out there has got me inspired to learn about the art myself. i am at the moment looking into good online courses that i could follow. in the meantime, I am trying to include some photography in my life everyday.

It's good to see so many people trying to create visual images of their world - personal or large scale. I have been amazed, as well, at how many talented photographers are in this blogosphere:).

Yes, daughter, I have thought about borrowing your child for these types of photos. Maybe next visit:).
I wondered how the stock photography market worked. I have no idea, just sounds like a nice way to make some extra $ with photos. That would be so hard for me to have a white background! How do you do it?
Did you like your class?
To answer your question about trying something new and different I will be taking an Adobe Illustrator intensive class this summer! Always interesting trying to take an online class, run my business, create, restock stores and cook, clean and do laundry and childcare! Yikes!!
Have a great rest of your week!

100 Blessings

It's funny how a project takes on a life of its own. I started out making a list of things I'd like to take pictures of - piles of M&M's, rocks on the beach, license plates hanging on an old garage door. Then I decided it would be interesting to find 100 items about "me," celebrating my 100th post with items about me/my life/etc. This way I could tie my compulsion to blog in to my theme. So, I started THAT list. And when I was done I decided all the things I was collecting, ideas as well as items, were actually blessings. Things about my life that make me who I am and allow me to keep striving to be the best I can be at what I do. Each activity isn't necessarily a blessing, it's my ability to do the things I love to do, and be with the people I love to be with. This became an introspective activity, and that's probably where I am in my life right now. If the shoe fits..., so to speak. So, welcome to my 100th Post ! Without everyone I've met thr...

Hidden Gem

Thank you, Georgia , for helping me focus on the hidden gem, the place we love to go and not be found. Not far from home...it IS home. We call it "out back," and once there we are transported to a private place, not visible from houses or road or the casual observer. I couldn't choose just one photo, so I created a collage of this special part of our world. Enjoy.

Restoration in the Works!

The Ammi Wright House.  Built 1888.         Our town has some pretty remarkable older homes and businesses.  Many have already been restored and are residences and/or businesses.   We went to a meeting the other night which focused on how to go about restoring a beautiful old lumber Barron's home - the Ammi Wright house, just off the main street. It has been empty for a great many years and needs a lot of work to bring it back to life.  But this group of people can do it.   The building itself is already purchased as part of an agreement with the Gratiot Area Historical Society.  Located in a nearby town, they have purchased it and Alma will be part of this system.  We are now forming committees for all the areas which need to be addressed, including historical research, fundraising, publicity, etc.  Lots of work, and lots of interest.  There is a steering committee in place, and we all signed up for an area we feel...
