The "List" Revised

I am a list maker.  Relyin Lawson of Come Sit By My Fire does a wonderful job of crafting a creative blog post in the form of a list.  It is awesome and I recommend you visit her site.   I always think I would like to try it, but can't wrap my mind about what my own spin might be.

Original native Alaskan art - I could write a post on the preservation of native culture so easily.
Items on my list include:

  •  making some sort of photo book, or two, from our travel photos and adventures this summer.
  • writing more about our travels, through blog posts that have been promised but not written.
  • cleaning up my work space in the basement so I have my writing spot back, and my sewing area. (There will be no photos to illustrate why this is critical.)
  • beginning the process of downsizing by taking a room-by-room inventory, and then multiple trips to Goodwill.
  • getting back on Ebay.  We did this once, but don't remember how to get back on it!  This item is attached to the last item on my wish-list.
  • reading the stacks of books which are calling my name each time I pass them.
  • creating a quilt or too - no more information forthcoming at the moment.  I don't want to give anything away!
  • starting an Easy shop for our photography.
  • etc.
Another blog post could be the variety of experiences we had - from the big city of Vancouver to small town Talkeetna.

However, there are times things get in the way.  A perfect example is the fix we find ourselves in after caving in to one of the other things that was penciled lightly onto that list.
  • Get a dog
The last 24 hours have been a whirlwind of activity, and we have been both pleasantly surprised by, and unpleasantly reminded of, our adventure into dog ownership - again.  For we have had dogs before.  And each time we have lost one we have said, "Never again!"  and "No more dog hair all over everything."  and "Now maybe we can save some money."

Yet here we are because we were in the right time at the right place, and found what we feel is exactly what we were looking for.

And almost 24 hours later, we are a bit tired, and have had a lot of exercise, and the cat is trying to remain civil, and puppy is laying on my feet while I write - FINALLY worn out.  For this  sweet little puppy has discovered the slider door in the family room opens to a wonderful world she knows very little about.  Her previous owners believed in keeping puppies indoors for quite a long time, to cut down on any potential health concerns.  But this puppy is an outdoor puppy, which may help in the house training area.  We would like THAT job done before the snow flies.  And in Michigan you never know.

So here is a photo journey of what is monopolizing our time, keeping me from that list that I really must get back to soon.  But you can see how I am distracted by this wonderful addition to the family, can't you?

Meet Kaycee
Her Irish name means "observant, alert and vigorous."
We can attest to all three characteristics being very applicable!
(When she doesn't crash and burn for a short snooze.)

What's next?
It's been long time since I've had a cup of coffee while walking around the back yard in my robe at 6:00 a.m.!
Whose crate is that, anyway?  It seems Meesha does not want her to take up residence!
The first of many of those soulful-eyed "I'm sorry" looks.
Ah...a patch of shade!
It won't be long before she can't sleep here anymore!

I love her name. Kaycee. It is a great name and seems to fit her personality. We took another route we adopted a four year old. Oh Sandy she is such a sweet heart. I did not realize how much I missed my Eddie until Dolly was here. It was the best thing we did for ourselves. We love our little girl. She is healing out hearts. I know your Kaycee will be cherished and love and I think this dog just won the lotto becoming your little girl.

Relyn does make wonderful lists -- and your list could very nearly be mine except for the get a dog part! But if I saw little Kaycee, I might fall in love so quickly that would go right out the window. She's the cutest, sweetest thing! Good luck on the potty training -- yes, you are in the right season! And good luck on the rest of the list. If I were competitive, I'd suggest a contest to see which of us get through it first (like I said, they are pretty similar!)But I'm not, so maybe we should just co-motivate!

She's adorable...reminds me our Monty when he was a puppy, very similar looking. It's easy to see why she has stolen your heart and your time already!

Awww... thanks, friend. I love your list, too. Especially the books that know your name. I have an enormous pile just like that.

100 Blessings

It's funny how a project takes on a life of its own. I started out making a list of things I'd like to take pictures of - piles of M&M's, rocks on the beach, license plates hanging on an old garage door. Then I decided it would be interesting to find 100 items about "me," celebrating my 100th post with items about me/my life/etc. This way I could tie my compulsion to blog in to my theme. So, I started THAT list. And when I was done I decided all the things I was collecting, ideas as well as items, were actually blessings. Things about my life that make me who I am and allow me to keep striving to be the best I can be at what I do. Each activity isn't necessarily a blessing, it's my ability to do the things I love to do, and be with the people I love to be with. This became an introspective activity, and that's probably where I am in my life right now. If the shoe fits..., so to speak. So, welcome to my 100th Post ! Without everyone I've met thr

Restoration in the Works!

The Ammi Wright House.  Built 1888.         Our town has some pretty remarkable older homes and businesses.  Many have already been restored and are residences and/or businesses.   We went to a meeting the other night which focused on how to go about restoring a beautiful old lumber Barron's home - the Ammi Wright house, just off the main street. It has been empty for a great many years and needs a lot of work to bring it back to life.  But this group of people can do it.   The building itself is already purchased as part of an agreement with the Gratiot Area Historical Society.  Located in a nearby town, they have purchased it and Alma will be part of this system.  We are now forming committees for all the areas which need to be addressed, including historical research, fundraising, publicity, etc.  Lots of work, and lots of interest.  There is a steering committee in place, and we all signed up for an area we feel comfortable helping with.  Mine is research, which is no surpris
