New Year's Resolutions

Happy New Year!

I know many people make formal resolutions, and I used to do the same thing, but the older I get the more pressure that seems to be!  Yes, I'd like to do some things differently this year, and I'd also like to accomplish a few things which have been on my wish list for years.  But I do think I also want to learn to take one day at a time and enjoy it for what it is.

So today I am doing some much needed writing on a project which is very exciting, and the grocery shopping needs to be done.  A salad needs to be invented to take to a pot-luck tonight, and a few house-work items need to be accomplished.  This all seems doable and enjoyable.  A good day.

Of course, I can't help but think of a few other things which should be done within the next couple of days.  Like the photos which need to be selected, edited, resized and submitted for competition Tuesday.  Then there's the desk which needs to be swept clean so I can prepare for my first classes this coming week.  The computer files need some reshuffling and organizing for my classes, too.  Should I take down the rest of the Christmas decorations?  The deep cleaning can wait:).  When will I get to that totally irresistable t-shirt quilt I want to make out of my old directing shirts?  As if I didn't go on a quilt-making frenzy all fall?!

And once again I'm caught up in the life which takes over and keeps you from settling into a calm, day-at-a-time mindset.  Did I say Mindset?  That's the book sitting here waiting to be finished.  Excellent read, by the way.  There's also the book I just received for Christmas, the new Stephen King book about what would have happened if the Kennedy assasination had been stopped.

Or maybe I'll just sit down with Roamin and plot our next photo adventure.  Yes, that sounds like just the ticket on a cold winter's evening, in front of the fire.

Maybe tomorrow.

What about you?  Did you make any resolutions, or are you planning anything exciting?

No resolutions here ... one day at a time seems to work best for me.

Photo adventures are always fun!

{in regard to your question, I used Elements 9 on that particular photo. I'm just learning, but it's fun to play.}

2012 is the year to break my cell phone habit while driving. So far, so good!

Hey Sandy, don't tease us by showing those beautiful quilts stacked up! Take a few minutes to take photos of them and share them with us. We all need inspiration! Thanks. Margaret

100 Blessings

It's funny how a project takes on a life of its own. I started out making a list of things I'd like to take pictures of - piles of M&M's, rocks on the beach, license plates hanging on an old garage door. Then I decided it would be interesting to find 100 items about "me," celebrating my 100th post with items about me/my life/etc. This way I could tie my compulsion to blog in to my theme. So, I started THAT list. And when I was done I decided all the things I was collecting, ideas as well as items, were actually blessings. Things about my life that make me who I am and allow me to keep striving to be the best I can be at what I do. Each activity isn't necessarily a blessing, it's my ability to do the things I love to do, and be with the people I love to be with. This became an introspective activity, and that's probably where I am in my life right now. If the shoe fits..., so to speak. So, welcome to my 100th Post ! Without everyone I've met thr

Restoration in the Works!

  The Ammi Wright House.  Built 1888.         Our town has some pretty remarkable older homes and businesses.  Many have already been restored and are residences and/or businesses.   We went to a meeting the other night which focused on how to go about restoring a beautiful old lumber Barron's home - the Ammi Wright house, just off the main street. It has been empty for a great many years and needs a lot of work to bring it back to life.  But this group of people can do it.   The building itself is already purchased as part of an agreement with the Gratiot Area Historical Society.  Located in a nearby town, they have purchased it and Alma will be part of this system.  We are now forming committees for all the areas which need to be addressed, including historical research, fundraising, publicity, etc.  Lots of work, and lots of interest.  There is a steering committee in place, and we all signed up for an area we feel comfortable helping with.  Mine is research, which is no surpris
