Isn't it amazing how many people take their little idea and turn it into an empire? We talk about those entrepreneurs out there...those people who not only have the vision but know how to carry it out. There was a television program a few months ago highlighting Michigan entrepreneurs, and low and behold I recently found myself walking into the brainchild of one of these talented idealists.
Sweetie-licious Bakery Cafe is a delightful blast from the past. When you walk in to this bakery in downtown DeWitt, MI you are engulfed in the aroma of fresh pastries. Cookies, muffins, and the famous pies. The decor is definitely 1950's - with all employees wearing aprons, pearls, cute and perky headbands, and wide smiles. Pony tails? Sure:) And curls. An EZ-Bake Oven is perched on a partition, vintage cookbooks, aprons, pictures and other memorabilia are tastefully displayed around the shop.

The woman who founded this well-known empire is Linda Hundt, and she has been featured on the Food Network and Today Show. An award winner, she also holds pie-making classes which have a minimum waiting list of 6 months!
If you find yourself near this small town near Lansing, please stop and enjoy the fare. There are a few breakfast and lunch items available; the day I was there with a friend we enjoyed the fresh quiche. It was served with fruit, and a choice of bread and cheese or muffin. Delicious. Grab a coke from the old frig and sit a while. What a fabulous find.
Of course, if you take one of the delicious pies home (they're available by the slice, 5" or 9"), make sure you supervise the serving area closely. I'm not a product photographer, so was working to find a way to show off the incredible Cherry Berry Berry Pie (cherries, blueberries and raspberries), and it was only by luck that I saved that ice cream from a local predator.
Enjoy!

Those of us who live in DeWitt are truly blessed for all of Linda's efforts (and her wonderful staff), and so our our tummies!
There is nothing like an entrepreneural spirit but you are so right, it's the will to see the ideas through that matters.
Hope your week is fab so far.
