A Good Life

Last week we lost a beloved member of the family, our English Setter named Katy. Today we saw this poem and decided to pass along this loving tribute to all who have lost special members of the family - loyal companions who don't talk back, and love you unconditionally.

Rainbow Bridge
~author unknown

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,
that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Oh I am so sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with you.

It's bittersweet, our relationship with our pets.

This poem is beautiful.
I am so, so sorry for your loss. I always love that poem the Rainbow Bridge. What a lovely, sweet face! I know she will be missed.

I am so sorry. I know what it is like to lose a pet - just heart breaking. They are not here for very long, but I am sure that is because they love so completely - they do not have as many lessons to learn as us humans. Hope you have had a blessed Easter.

So sad to hear this Sandy, my condolences to you. Dogs have so much to teach us about unconditional love and bring such joy into our lives, don't they? And they are much missed when they move to wait at that rainbow bridge

Oh gosh, that brought chills to me. I've always been a cat lover, although we've always had dogs, but I don't think I've ever felt that close companionship with any as I do with Monty. I dread the day that we part.
I am so sorry to hear of you loss, looks like she had a good long life though. An eternal question is why don't they live as long as we do?
Hugs to you

It's strange how we still anticipate her reaction to something. For instance, today a turkey wandered past the back window and we were "waiting" for Katy to jump and start her bark-attack:). We also miss having someone clean up while we're in the kitchen cooking:):):)

100 Blessings

It's funny how a project takes on a life of its own. I started out making a list of things I'd like to take pictures of - piles of M&M's, rocks on the beach, license plates hanging on an old garage door. Then I decided it would be interesting to find 100 items about "me," celebrating my 100th post with items about me/my life/etc. This way I could tie my compulsion to blog in to my theme. So, I started THAT list. And when I was done I decided all the things I was collecting, ideas as well as items, were actually blessings. Things about my life that make me who I am and allow me to keep striving to be the best I can be at what I do. Each activity isn't necessarily a blessing, it's my ability to do the things I love to do, and be with the people I love to be with. This became an introspective activity, and that's probably where I am in my life right now. If the shoe fits..., so to speak. So, welcome to my 100th Post ! Without everyone I've met thr...

Hidden Gem

Thank you, Georgia , for helping me focus on the hidden gem, the place we love to go and not be found. Not far from home...it IS home. We call it "out back," and once there we are transported to a private place, not visible from houses or road or the casual observer. I couldn't choose just one photo, so I created a collage of this special part of our world. Enjoy.

Restoration in the Works!

The Ammi Wright House.  Built 1888.         Our town has some pretty remarkable older homes and businesses.  Many have already been restored and are residences and/or businesses.   We went to a meeting the other night which focused on how to go about restoring a beautiful old lumber Barron's home - the Ammi Wright house, just off the main street. It has been empty for a great many years and needs a lot of work to bring it back to life.  But this group of people can do it.   The building itself is already purchased as part of an agreement with the Gratiot Area Historical Society.  Located in a nearby town, they have purchased it and Alma will be part of this system.  We are now forming committees for all the areas which need to be addressed, including historical research, fundraising, publicity, etc.  Lots of work, and lots of interest.  There is a steering committee in place, and we all signed up for an area we feel...
