On the Road Again

We love traveling. And the United States is a perfect place to do this! I used to dream of traveling in Europe, but the more I explore our own country the more there is to see here!

A couple of weeks ago we started a journey to the West - crossing the Mississippi River, swollen from the recent flooding. What a fantastic site. You can't help but think about Mark Twain and his wonderful river tales. Do you remember the real name of this author?

From there we crossed Iowa and Nebraska as we needed to meet up with friends in the Denver area on a certain date. We were fortunate enough to have an after-hours butterfly shoot at a beautiful butterfly house and didn't want to miss it.
And now we're high in the Rocky Mountains at a beautiful mountain house, spending time in Rocky Mountain National Park. The wildlife is magnificent. One particular moment stands out from yesterday's adventures. We had stopped at the park entrance to take a photo of the park sign, and Daryl was heard to say: "That can't be real..." We turned to look, and a bull moose was standing in the trees near the road. Scrambling to answer the photographic call, we quickly, and quietly got out tripods and long lenses and found positions around the car to shoot from. Then our friend Sharon started a stage-whisper chant: "He's coming, he's coming, he's coming..." And she was right. He was coming right toward us, ambling (fortunately) across the highway and into the marshy area beyond the parking area we were standing in - in stunned disbelief.
As you can see...even professional photographers seize the moment, though the out-come is less than perfect. It's all part of the adventure.

100 Blessings

It's funny how a project takes on a life of its own. I started out making a list of things I'd like to take pictures of - piles of M&M's, rocks on the beach, license plates hanging on an old garage door. Then I decided it would be interesting to find 100 items about "me," celebrating my 100th post with items about me/my life/etc. This way I could tie my compulsion to blog in to my theme. So, I started THAT list. And when I was done I decided all the things I was collecting, ideas as well as items, were actually blessings. Things about my life that make me who I am and allow me to keep striving to be the best I can be at what I do. Each activity isn't necessarily a blessing, it's my ability to do the things I love to do, and be with the people I love to be with. This became an introspective activity, and that's probably where I am in my life right now. If the shoe fits..., so to speak. So, welcome to my 100th Post ! Without everyone I've met thr

Hidden Gem

Thank you, Georgia , for helping me focus on the hidden gem, the place we love to go and not be found. Not far from home...it IS home. We call it "out back," and once there we are transported to a private place, not visible from houses or road or the casual observer. I couldn't choose just one photo, so I created a collage of this special part of our world. Enjoy.
