Playing with Color and Light

We had a lovely day in Holland this week...Holland, MI.  Every year there is a huge Tulip Festival, a week-long event.  You would think that the festival activity would mostly be on a weekend.  Well, not so.  We were there on Wednesday, and as we pulled in to the first tulip gardens we counted approximately 12 buses, from all over the country, and Canada!  Who knew?!  However, we counted ourselves lucky to have  a perfect spring day, where the sun was bright, the air was warm and our spirits were full of joy.  A day to photograph and experiment and create...so rewarding.


I spent the day testing equipment.  What photographs could I get using my new point-and-shoot, the Canon G15, as well as my Lensbaby gear.  The Lensbaby is a selective focus lens I received a few years ago, but never got the hang of using.  In April I took an Online class through the Picture Perfect School of Photography which was focused on teaching us to use the lens and accessories to get our desired result.
 

My next post will be more details on the Lens itself, but for now here are some of the results.  I am posting a mix of traditionally shot photographs, in-camera special effects, and Lensbaby  photos.  Can you see any differences which might alert you to the fact that I took some photos in a "different" way?  Results to follow, another day:).

How fun to be playing with new equipment! And Holland is a perfect spot. We haven't been there in years -- look like you hit the jackpot weatherwise!

Thank you, Jeanie and Susan, it was a splendid day indeed. The flowers were in perfect shape, so it didn't seem like there would be a bad shot:).

OHHHHH NOOOOOWWW. You were HERE. And I didn't even KNOW!!!! How wonderful it would have been to meet up with you. I am SO sorry I've missed you. I am out of blogging for quite some time now and today isn't one of my bests when I find our reading all I've missed out on. Gosh I am terribly sorry Sandy. This would have been THE opportunity to meet with you. Holland is so small we could have arranged a meeting for a coffee easaly.

Adventure Spots - Ours and Yours

It's June. Officially a summer month, and one I have always loved. It's also a time when I start thinking about having an adventure...to some beautiful, place more distant than my town. Last summer we had a wonderous trip through the western national parks, and spent a little time on the Oregon coast. The Columbia River gorge is beautiful - lush and exotic, fragrant, and heady with motion and sound. The waterfalls are astounding - and we love Multomah falls particularly. There's an upper and lower falls, with hiking paths for those who want to get up close and personal. The regular tourist path is paved, and leads you to this footbridge, spanning the cliff walls between upper and lower falls. Stunning. Where is one of your favorite adventure spots, and why does it touch your soul?
