Yet One More Reason Why I'm a Photographer

Starry, Starry Night Vincent VanGogh Our monthly book club was meeting at my house this month, and we'd read a very interesting book by Steve Martin - who knew the comedian could write?  Another interesting fact we learned, he's a very knowledgeable art collector. An Object of Beauty had an art theme, and we sometimes try to match our refreshments, or decorations, or both, to the theme of our book.  So...what should I do?  Ah ha!  I'll get out one of my favorite go-to treat books and look for the perfect desert.  To the cupboard!  Open the door.  Pull out Hello, Cupcake , and What's New, Cupcake?, both by Karen Tack & Alan Richardson.  Such delicious and fairly easy creations for almost any occasion, all made with a boxed cake mix and a can of frosting, or two.  Add food coloring, candy and other decorative touches, and a little slight of hand - voila!  You have a very impressive offering....

Nature, With a Boost

This year we have a flower garden. Not that we haven't tried before, but the rabbits and deer seem to "win" more than we do. But this year I decided to be more aggressive in my attempt to grow flowers, for both decorative purposes and photography. We put a fence in front of the front walk, close to the house for maximum control, and I have been nurturing a variety of flowers and plants for a few weeks now. Not known for my green thumb, I am going to defy all odds this year and demonstrate that I can, indeed, keep flowers not only alive , but thriving for an entire season! I will keep you updated as the season progresses, and hopefully my posts will be both colorful and fragrant:). Enjoy!

Spread the Sunshine

Welcome to the third day of color week- yellow and orange. The colors are found together a lot and it's been fun trying to decide my focus...if any. It's also become a challenge to find the colors on doorways. I'll open the day with an orange door, found on a miniature dutch village house. Orange or yellow don't seem to be popular door colors where I live:). I am already dreading the purple challenge! I have been wishing for a garden...something I wish for every spring but we travel too much during the summer to really take care of one. Yesterday we took the first step and purchased some fencing to go in front of the front walk-way, and my wish is to plant bulbs and flowers and create a seasonal "mess" of color. I also would like an ornament for my area, and find myself drawn to garden ornaments wherever we go. This one is lovely, I think, with the bird perched jauntily on top. I love how the surrounding area is caught in the reflection. What would I have done...
