Black and White Wednesday

Permission to come aboard? That's what you ask when boarding any vessel, and that's what we asked boarding this tall ship in Traverse City last week. A 2-hour cruise in the bay on Lake Michigan, I did think about the "tour" of the fatefull crew and passengers who landed on Gilligans Island.
Black and white photography seems perfect for sailing ships...reminiscent of days gone by. So, "welcome aboard," and I hope you enjoy the ride.

Beautiful! You're right, sailing boats and ships do seem to lend themselves to black and white beautifully. I love these!

you're right - sailing does scream for BW processing with the high contrasts and sharp lines. beautiful shots.

Thank you - a beautiful get-away, and a beautiful sail. Though not enough wind to get us really going, and the sails just didn't have much to say to the camera. But it was lovely. Try it some time!

We've been pining over your shots, Georgia. Our own sailing craft needs work and we don't see a sail in our immediate future. I guess we'll live vicariously through the voyages of others for now.

It's funny how a project takes on a life of its own. I started out making a list of things I'd like to take pictures of - piles of M&M's, rocks on the beach, license plates hanging on an old garage door. Adventure Spots - Ours and Yours

It's June. Officially a summer month, and one I have always loved. It's also a time when I start thinking about having an adventure...to some beautiful, place more distant than my town. Last summer we had a wonderous trip through the western national parks, and spent a little time on the Oregon coast. The Columbia River gorge is beautiful - lush and exotic, fragrant, and heady with motion and sound. The waterfalls are astounding - and we love Multomah falls particularly. There's an upper and lower falls, with hiking paths for those who want to get up close and personal. The regular tourist path is paved, and leads you to this footbridge, spanning the cliff walls between upper and lower falls. Stunning.
